My building consists of cyclic elements. To complement this I
used a cyclic staircase revolving around the entire cylinder, providing a 360
view of the surrounding environment. Vertical poles were incorporated in the
staircase not only for functionality but also to contrast the horizontal
elements. Underground we have the SOLID hexagonal stairs. Complimenting the
idea of the solidarity of the earth and providing an insight into the underground
design to come.
This concept involves the use of bent structures above the
surface and curved, bubble like structures underground. To compliment this, I have
used a bent staircase placed symmetrical to the walls, conveying this idea that
the stairs are part of the wall. For the underground section I have used a circular
stair design which descends to the base, this compliments the design and ads to
this feeling of comfort that the bubble like design aims to do.
FEEDBACK
The stairs from the above level to the common room, emphasised on the curves of the building. The continuity of the spiral staircase also gave a grand feeling to it because of how it flows from floor to ceiling. The stairs from the common room to the below level is really innovative because of the use of levelled solids instead of the traditional steps. It has a lot of volume to support the weight of the people who will use the stairs. I also like the idea that the hexagon was used on the stairs which gave it feel more connected to the space.
If there’s a negative feedback would probably be the isolation of the bottom stairs to the space.
However, in all, I just think the stairs compliment the shapes just from following the curves of the building or using a certain shape to give the space harmony.
